Who Is Heidi Gardner?
Gardner was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where she grew up with her older brother, Justin. Although she was not interested in acting as a child, Gardner discovered her passion for comedy and improved later in life.
Gardner’s journey to becoming an actress was not a straightforward one. She worked part-time at the Tivoli Theater in her hometown, where she did everything from selling tickets to making popcorn. There, she developed an appreciation for the theatre and its impact on people’s lives. However, Gardner did not pursue acting until much later in life.
After graduating from the all-girls Catholic high school Notre Dame de Sion, Gardner enrolled at the University of Kansas for two years before transferring to the University of Missouri. However, she became uninterested in school and often skipped classes. Instead, she discovered a love for haircutting and worked at a hair salon for nine years in Los Angeles. It wasn’t until a friend encouraged her to attend a performance at The Groundlings theatre that she found her passion for acting.
Due to her lack of experience, Gardner enrolled in community workshops to learn the basics of improvising. Once comfortable, she auditioned for the Groundlings basic class and was accepted. In 2014, Gardner joined the Sunday Company and was promoted to the Main Company a year later. She quit her job as a hairstylist to focus on acting full-time.
Gardner’s big break came in 2017 when she joined the cast of SNL for its forty-third season. She debuted as a featured player alongside Luke Null and Chris Redd, and in 2019, both she and Redd were promoted to repertory status.
